Red Sea diversions have led to smaller vessels and slower speeds, exacerbating the environmental impact in the Far East-Mediterranean and Far East-Northern Europe trades. The Saudi Arabian port of Jeddah has seen a significant decrease in calls from top carriers, resulting in increased CO2 emissions due to longer routes.
As a reminder, the European Union's ICS2 will take effect on July 1st. ICS2 is the EU’s new customs pre-arrival security and safety program, designed to safeguard the EU internal market and its citizens. It gathers advance cargo information to detect threats early and enables tailored customs measures, all while simplifying trade procedures for lawful goods. For more information on ICS2, please refer to the European Commission’s official website.
