Maria joined KWE in 2016, after earning a degree in foreign languages. She started in export sales customer service, arranging air and sea exports. In 2019 she was assigned to sales, and now spends her days making proposals for air and sea export service to customers such as major manufacturers of agricultural and construction equipment, automotive related parts, and electronic components.
Working as part of a global team
When I visited the US on business in November 2019 I toured Chicago's O'Hare Airport and the Port of Long Beach and I found myself overwhelmed by their huge scale. In my day-to-day work I was focused on handling exports accurately and quickly so that the cargo got loaded on the ship or airplane on schedule. I could really identify with my colleagues handling the import side in the US when I learned how they were working to provide maximum service to customers while prioritizing efficiency at the same time. And when I visited a customer's factory, I learned about how they turned the cargo I helped ship out of Japan into finished products. I was moved by their passionate commitment.
In order to ship cargo I work together with people in different KWE departments, at airlines and shipping companies, and many other partner companies in Japan and around the world. When I was a student I was passionate about volleyball, and I like to do things as part of a team, so this is an aspect that holds interest for me.
Aiming to complete delivery
Our mission is to safely and surely ship the customer's cargo. But with unexpected situations cropping up around the world and the impact of the recent Covid-19 pandemic, even if the desktop calculations look perfect, the shipment may not go through to the end exactly as planned. At those times I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I can calmly decide what I need to do, coordinate with KWE in other countries, get the customer's cooperation, and successfully complete delivery.
That's what I like about the KWE corporate culture: you can get plenty of chances if you raise your hand, even if you're young. The world is changing at blinding speed, but I'll keep firmly centered and take on many different challenges in the future, without being bothered by conventional constraints.
