KWE Receives SBTi Approval for Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Targets
Kintetsu World Express, Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) is pleased to announce that it has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near and long-term net-zero science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets.

SBTi was established in 2015 as a joint initiative of the UNGC, WWF, WRI, and CDP, and aims to mitigate the global average temperature rise caused by climate change to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this goal, SBTi encourages companies to set greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets based on scientific knowledge and evidence. SBTi certification is a global standard that recognizes companies for their concrete efforts to decarbonize.
In August 2023, we submitted a letter of commitment to SBTi and have been working since then to verify our greenhouse gas emissions data worldwide and set reduction targets along with concrete and effective reduction measures.
These are the KWE group reduction targets:
Near-term targets
- Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions 42% by FY2030 from a FY2023 base year
- Reduce Scope 3 emissions 25% by FY2030 from a FY2023 base year
Long-term targets
- Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions 90% by FY2050 from a FY2023 base year
- Reduce Scope 3 emissions 90% by FY2050 from a FY2023 base year
We will take this opportunity to increase our group-wide efforts to decarbonize our operations and continue to work proactively to combat climate change on a global scale.
