Their Challenge
During a port labor dispute in 2015, an aerospace manufacturer faced imminent risk of shutting down their regional supply chain, which utilized the Just-In-Time methodology to receive between 70 to 80 tons of crucial components at their Savannah assembly plant in the Eastern part of the U.S. via multimodal transport from the West Coast of the country. The sudden loss of port reliability at the major ports along the Pacific seaboard, and the nature of their operations, meant that KWE would be challenged to engineer a solution within a span of ten days to sustain a multi-billion-dollar production schedule.
Our Solution
After identifying overseas shipment origins, we utilized our carrier partnerships to secure cargo allocations for the components. Our Long Beach facility was designated to receive, consolidate, and transfer the cargo via dedicated shuttle service to their assembly plant. Trucking schedules were aligned with the client's production timelines, with complete visibility throughout the fulfillment process.
The Results
With this, KWE delivered between 10 to 15 containers per week over the course of two months, providing our client with much-needed time to transition their supply chain process and meet production deadlines.
