Dockworkers at the Port of Montreal Have Expanded Strike Efforts

Starting Thursday, October 31, the Port of Montreal Longshoremen's Union (CUPE Local 375) will initiate an indefinite, partial strike at Termont's Maisonneuve and Viau container terminals. This will impact the movement of the port's container volume, potentially leading to significant delays in container shipments and increased truck wait times. This follows an overtime refusal since October 10 and the latest 24-hour strike on October 27. Workers have been without contract since December 2023 and despite government-mediated negotiation attempts, no agreement has been reached impacting operations and trade flow at one of Canada’s busiest ports.
Key Points:
- Start Date & Time: October 31, 2024, 11 a.m.
- Affected Terminals: Termont’s Maisonneuve and Viau
- Container Delays: Significant delays in unloading and loading.
- Operations & Trucking Impact: Increased wait times and congestion.
