Today’s Focus… Some Promising Relief, on “Victory in Europe (VE) Day”:

President Donald Trump announced at a news conference in the Oval Office that his administration had struck a trade deal with the United Kingdom—the first agreement Trump's administration has reached since the president imposed sweeping tariffs on U.S. trading partners. Under the deal, the U.K. will reduce non-tariff barriers to U.S. products, including beef, ethanol fuel, machinery, and chemicals. The 10% baseline tariff that the U.S. has applied to dozens of countries will remain in place, while tariffs on British vehicles will fall from 25% to 10% to match that baseline, his commerce secretary said. President Trump also said he plans to negotiate a trade deal with the European Union and that he is open to reducing 145% tariffs on Chinese goods. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer are scheduled to meet with their Chinese counterparts this weekend in Geneva, as reported by NBC.
